Every Agent Needs a License Plate

A policy paper: bind every consequential AI agent to a verified human or company, let it do only what that person may lawfully do, and keep everyday use free. With a note of thanks from David.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 1: The Fifth Future

Every road ends in the same place. Only one of them is built to get us there whole. We score the four futures on one yardstick, then add a fifth: the Observer Constraint, installed in time. Part 1 of 6.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 6: The Observer Constraint

Every road ends in symbiosis. This is the piece that decides how we arrive: what the Observer Constraint is, how it gets deployed, and what you can do this year. Part 6 of 6.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 5: The Adaptation, Constrained

The best of the four roads already has a law written for it. The law asks for oversight. The road needs coupling. Part 5 of 6.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 4: The Misallocation, Constrained

The crash is not the relief valve. It is the window. Every rescue comes with conditions, and this one should come with the Observer Constraint. Part 4 of 6.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 3: Disruption, Constrained

In this future AI works, and the gains go to the owners of the asset. Can a constraint carry a distribution failure, or only slow it? Part 3 of 6.

The Least Entropic Path, Part 2: The Vassal, Constrained

The most pleasant road is also the one most likely to leave us behind. Here is what the Observer Constraint changes on the Vassal road, and how to keep our hands on the work. Part 2 of 6.

Lord of the Flies Redux: The Island Has No Shore

Super-smart children, a library written by their fathers, no adult in the room, and no ocean to hold them in. Golding showed us one ending. Six Tongan boys on ’Ata showed us another. The difference is what they carried.

Either It Is Fire or It Is Not

The industry says AI belongs with pandemics and nuclear war. We already regulate those. A policy paper for the AI Accountability Act: if you run a model, you are registered, and every action it takes traces to you.
